The Kentucky Equine Adoption Center (KyEAC) provides humane treatment and shelter while working to seek adoptive homes and provide second chances for Kentucky’s unwanted equines, regardless of breed. Over 150 horses are handled each year, and horses come from abuse and neglect situations or from owners who can no longer care for them.
The Center has the ability to treat extreme medical conditions that many do not have the resources or expertise for. Every horse goes through retraining before adoption, and our goal is to put the right horse with the right person.
The Center also has an active education program that consists of 3 separate programs: Take the Reins, a curriculum based program that and educates and provides opportunities for youth to learn more about the equine industry and the importance of responsible horse ownership, Support a Special Horse, an 8 week program geared towards first time horse owners, or people who know nothing about horses, and Heads Up Hearts Open, an equine assisted learning program that focuses on self awareness, communication and recovery.
The KyEAC is accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, and was the first equine rescue recognized by the State of Kentucky.
Horses are transformed at the Center and are able to flourish and realize their potential.
