Enhancing Trauma Recovery with Behavioral Management
Presented by: Margaret Whittaker, Wild Welfare US
All too often, animals that arrive at sanctuaries require specialized care to recover and regain the ability to behave in a species-appropriate manner. This journey can be challenging for both the individual animals as well as their human caregivers. This presentation will provide an overview of how the techniques of behavioral management can enhance the recovery process. Behavioral management involves the synergy of technical and supportive elements that when used in combination, provide a powerful means of addressing behavioral, physical and emotional needs for all types of animals. This presentation will provide an overview of behavioral management with the emphasis on positive reinforcement training and environmental enrichment to specifically address common behavioral and emotional conditions often seen in traumatized individuals.
