Mitchell Farm Equine Retirement, Inc. was founded in 2004 by Dee Doolittle with the belief that all equines have the right to a dignified life even if they are no longer useful to man. Our mission is to provide a safe and comfortable retirement alternative for aged and infirm equines to live out their lives and to offer educational opportunities on equine welfare and management.

Unwanted horses are stressing the already over-burdened rescue organizations. Mitchell Farm permanently removes older or unusable horses from the rescue stream. This allows rescues to focus on horses healthy enough to be re-homed.

Either advanced age or infirmity has caused an end to the useful, athletic lives of these animals; however, they are healthy enough to live naturally for many years to come. Mitchell Farm not only serves as a permanent home for these at-risk horses but also as a model for similar organizations, helping to expand and develop the area of proactive equine welfare.
