The ILEHC is an equine rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption center located in Maple Park, Illinois. Founded in 2008, the all-volunteer organization works tirelessly to serve as a safe harbor to horses that have been starved, abused, neglected, or are at risk of being sold to slaughter. The ILEHC also works diligently to promote legislative efforts to improve equine welfare and to end the brutal practice of horse slaughter.
The ILEHC is currently home to 14 horses in various stages of rehabilitation and/or retraining in preparation for future adoption. We also have several older horses in our sanctuary program, who are living out their days grazing our beautiful pastures while enjoying boatloads of treats, love, and attention.
Our formal mission statement is as follows:
To provide humane treatment and shelter while working as a clearinghouse to seek adoptive homes for all of Illinois’ unwanted equines regardless of breed.
To educate the public and raise awareness for responsible equine ownership so that fewer horses end up in crisis.
