Yayasan IAR Indonesia runs not only a rescue centre for orangutans but also a facility which is the biggest rescue and rehabilitation centre for macaques in Java and the biggest centre in the world for slow lorises. This facility was built with the objective of protecting species that are often overlooked by other conservation organisations such as long-tailed and pig-tailed macaques. Facing the enormous demand for rehabilitation capacity, YIARI conducts education and awareness activities to increase knowledge about animal welfare and conservation within the communities with the long-term aim of combatting the illegal trade in wildlife. In collaboration with government institutions such as the Forestry Department of Indonesia and other local NGOs and communities, YIARI makes valuable contributions to habitat protection, reforestation and sustainability efforts in Indonesia.
