New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin N Circles Ranch of Edgewood, New Mexico is Accredited by Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries

October 18, 2019, (Edgewood, NM) – The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), the only globally recognized organization providing standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries, awarded Accredited status to New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin N Circles Ranch as of October 10, 2019.

Accreditation signifies that New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin N Circles Ranch meets GFAS’s rigorous and peer-reviewed equine care standards which are confirmed by a comprehensive site visit. Accreditation also signifies adherence to standards addressing the sustainability of the organization, ethical principles, finances, staffing, education outreach, security and safety and other operational aspects.

“We are proud to announce the Accreditation of New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin N Circles Ranch,” said Valerie Taylor, GFAS Program Director-Equine. “The rehabilitation, retraining, and adoption services offered to equines-in-need at the rescue are exceptional.  New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin N Circles Ranch impacts not only the animals cared for, but also the entire local equestrian community through their robust volunteer programs and events which showcase equines for adoption. Given their long history of rescue work and solid business structure, New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin N Circles Ranch is poised to provide these essential services well into the future.”

“For nearly 18 years, we have remained true to our mission of providing all rescued equines with new beginnings and productive lives with loving, adoptive families,” says Charlyn Hudson, president of New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin N Circles Ranch.  “Our Accreditation through GFAS will help our organization operate at an even higher standard than before so we can continue our important work for many years to come.”

The GFAS Equine Accreditation Program is made possible by a generous grant from The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® and the Kenneth Scott Charitable Trust.

About Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries
Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the sole purpose of strengthening and supporting the work of animal sanctuaries, rescues, and rehabilitation centers worldwide. The goal of GFAS in working with and assisting these animal care facilities is to ensure they are supported, honored, recognized and rewarded for meeting important criteria in providing care to the animals in residence. GFAS was founded in 2007 by animal protection leaders from a number of different organizations in response to virtually unchecked and often hidden exploitation of animals for human entertainment and financial profit. The GFAS Board of Directors guides the organization’s work in a collaborative manner. While the board includes those in top leadership at The Humane Society of the United States, International Fund for Animal Welfare, and American Anti-Vivisection Society, all board members serve as individuals dedicated to animal sanctuaries. www.sanctuaryfederation.org.

About New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin N Circles RanchSince 2002, New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin N Circles Ranch, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) horse rescue that rehabilitates and finds homes for abandoned, abused, and neglected horses.  We are governed by a Board of Directors who oversees day-to-day operations with the assistance of on-site caretakers and the help of more than 100 volunteers. Ranch team members volunteer their experience, skills, talents and time to care for horses, maintain the facilities and fund the ranch. We utilize University of California, Davis Best Practices for Horse Rescues and natural horsemanship to guide our work.  Our herd number can vary, but we generally care for 30 to 40 horses on the ranch, and several more in foster care. The majority of horses that come to us have been owner surrendered or seized by the New Mexico Livestock Board due to abuse, neglect or abandonment.  We are licensed, regulated and inspected annually by the Livestock Board.
