(Linn Creek, MO) – The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), the only globally recognized organization providing standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries, awarded Accredited status to Missouri Forget Me Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary as of December 7, 2016.
Accreditation means that Missouri Forget Me Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary provides humane and responsible care to equines, and that the organization meets GFAS’s rigorous and peer-reviewed equine care standards which are confirmed by a site visit. As an Accredited organization, Missouri Forget Me Not has also demonstrated adherence to standards addressing the sustainability of the organization, ethical principles, finances, staffing, education outreach, security and safety and other operational aspects.
“We are proud to announce the recent accreditation of Missouri Forget Me Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary,” said Valerie Taylor, GFAS Director of Accreditation. “The life-long horse experience and animal husbandry skills of Missouri Forget Me Not’s volunteers are a huge contributing factor to the organization’s success in providing rescue and rehabilitation services to horses-in-need. In addition, Missouri Forget Me Not’s dedication to sustainable, non-profit business practices demonstrates the organization’s commitment to helping their community for many years to come.”
“We are honored and thrilled to receive accreditation from the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries,” said Connie Hendrix, President of Missouri Forget Me Not. “This accreditation is a testament to the hard work, dedication and commitment of our volunteers and donors to our mission of providing aid and sanctuary to abused, neglected, and abandoned horses that come to us in need, and our advocacy for the welfare of all horses. Our affiliation with such an exceptional organization as GFAS provides assurance to the community that we provide the highest level of care for all of our equine, and that their well-being and dignity is our foremost concern.”
The GFAS Equine Accreditation Program is made possible by a generous grant from The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® and the Kenneth Scott Charitable Trust.
About Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries
Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the sole purpose of strengthening and supporting the work of animal sanctuaries, rescues, and rehabilitation centers worldwide. The goal of GFAS in working with and assisting these animal care facilities is to ensure they are supported, honored, recognized and rewarded for meeting important criteria in providing care to the animals in residence. GFAS was founded in 2007 by animal protection leaders from a number of different organizations in response to virtually unchecked and often hidden exploitation of animals for human entertainment and financial profit. The GFAS Board of Directors guides the organization’s work in a collaborative manner. While the board includes those in top leadership at Born Free USA, The Humane Society of the United States, International Fund for Animal Welfare, and American Anti-Vivisection Society, all board members serve as individuals dedicated to animal sanctuaries. localhost.
About Missouri Forget Me Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary
Missouri Forget Me Not Horse Rescue and Sanctuary was established as a non-profit animal welfare organization in 2011-its mission is to provide aid and sanctuary to abused, neglected, abandoned or donated horses in need; work with law enforcement and other agencies to rectify situations in which horses are in peril; provide horses in Sanctuary with needed medical care, proper nutrition and a health plan to restore them physically and mentally for a new life; continue educational and fundraising efforts to support rescue efforts and to promote awareness of issues involving neglect and abuse. Since 2011, Missouri Forget Me Not has taken in more than 200 horses, performed 135 adoptions and facilitated other horses being sponsored or sheltered in a network of foster homes. The organization has minimal administrative costs, no paid employees and is a totally 100% volunteer organization. Missouri Forget Me Not does not discriminate based on age, health, ride-ability, or breed of the horses it accepts, but rather, helps all to live a good life, or sometimes pass away, with dignity. Missouri Forget Me Not also houses several permanent residents – horses whose health condition or age does not allow us to comfortably place them in other homes. The organization is proud to have donated their time and efforts to making a difference in the lives of equines, and feels that the horses always give more back than they ever receive from us!
